Press Release Regarding The Bomb Attack Carried Out Against The Convoy Of Un Supervision Mission (unsmis) In Syria Today (9 May), 9 May 2012 , 09.05.2012No: 129, 9 May 2012
We strongly condemn the bomb attack carried out in Deraa today (9 May) against the convoy of the UN Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS), operating in accordance with the plan put forward by Mr. Kofi Annan, Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States regarding Syria.
Primary responsibility to maintain security and freedom of movement of the personnel serving in UN Supervision Mission rests with the Syrian Administration. We expect the Syrian administration to fulfill completely this responsibility.
The fact that violence has still not come to an end despite the current Annan Plan is further deepening our concerns. It is obvious that violence in Syria will not cease unless the military troops and other elements affiliated with the regime fully withdraw from the populated areas without leading to a grain of doubt and retreat to their barracks.
On this occasion, we emphasize once again that we will closely follow that if the Syrian Administration will carry out its commitments it has assumed with the Annan Plan as well as its obligations stemming from the UN Security Council Resolutions 2042 and 2043 which envisage a complete and full implementation of this plan.
