Press Release Regarding The 18th Council Of Ministers Meeting Of The Eco And The 10th Eco Summit Meeting , 07.03.2009
H.E. Mr. Ali Babacan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey will participate in the 18th Council of Ministers Meeting of the ECO, which will be held on 9 March 2009 in Teheran and will accompany H.E. Mr. Abdullah Gül, President of the Republic of Turkey at the 10th ECO Summit Meeting which will be held on 11 March 2009.
ECO was established by Turkey, Iran and Pakistan in 1985 as a regional economic organization and enlarged to an organization of 10 members with the accession of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in 1992.
Turkey, being one of the founding members, attaches importance to the activities of this organization and considers the ECO as a multilateral economic cooperation platform which can contribute to the economic welfare and stability of the region.
On the occasion of the Council of Ministers and the Summit Meetings, H.E. Ali Babacan, Minister of Foreign Affairs plans to hold bilateral meetings with the Iranian authorities, and the Foreign Ministers of the other ECO countries.
